Evaluation Q2

EVALUATION #2

How does product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media test?

My Target audience:

The reason why these people would like my film is:
  • The MC is FEMALE so it's likely that the audience might be able to link with the female MC (female audience - may associate with protagonist)
  • Theme ambiguity in FALLEN as to whether the threat is external or internal >> Problem might not be resolved
  • Identity with some mental health issues - obsessive and anxious might be drawn to the film that focus on psychological
  • Describe themselves as artistic - may appreciate dancing
  • Willing to take creative noir - this is an convention thriller

HOW WILL IT BE DISTRIBUTED:

IDEA 1
First place I decide to distribute my film to is the LIONSGATE PREMIERE because this company holds a good percentage amount of the market and have high demand so there is high change of people watching my film.

ABOUT "LIONSGATE:

IDEA 2
Second I would released it in Cinemas around the Asia first and if it's a success I would expand my market to the world.
HOW? >>>> I would released my film to cinemas in different countries for my target audience to be able to access easier because they are people with medium to high income so they would be able to go to cinemas.

IDEA 3
I might go for Netflix because it's can be access world wide and it's online also some of my audience are teenager to middle age women and these audiences could access Netflix any time to watch movies so it would be easier for them.

ON TO STRTEGRY:
If throughout the year I would plan it out like this:

I've choose this released date because it's not far from the end of the year and during October there's halloween so people would be able to talk about the film and increase it's rating.

Evaluation Q3

EVALUATION #3

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

Express as a TRUMP CARD:

CODES N' CONVENTIONS

BEFORE ~ 5.5.........AFTER ~ 8.8
I've decide to put my understanding of Thriller convention and understanding of film opening at 5.5 because at first I didn't understand what convention means but as the course goes on I was able to bring my understanding of conventions to a higher level and same goes for my understanding of film opening. I was able to increase my understanding of film opening by watching many Thriller opening such as Black Swan.

This here is my notes about CODES & CONVENTIONS that I took in class and this helps me to gain more understanding about CODES & CONVENTIONS.
I've applied this to my FILM OPENING by using TECHNICAL CODE because in the dancing part of my film opening I've decide to close the lights while the MC is dancing to show the distinguished between her mind and the real world also this part become more clear at the end of the film with the mirror effects.

Evidence to support my point:

Here I was able to bring out my understanding of CODES & CONVENTION into my own work and develop my skills in understand Thriller especially PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER.

These are ideas of checklist that I might need to think about when I'm doing the film opening and we brainstorm this as a class to help each other to tick of each bullet points also to make sure that I don't go off track with what I'm doing.

This is a research I did with the class on order of credits and how to order our credits so this is an example for me to base my order to also to see example of how credits could be place in different ways and fonts.

PLANNING N' ORGANISATION

BEFORE ~ 7.5........AFTER ~ 9.5
ACTOR
I noticed myself to be a person who is organised but I still noticed some gaps in that I am still lacking in some part of planning and organising people because I found it challenging to ask someone to participate in my coursework as an actor. However, I over come this fear of asking by just taking action and ask my friend to be the actor for my film opening  and this allow me to finish my coursework on time because I haven't wait till the last minute to ask for an actor.
LOCATION
For the location I decide to used the school dance studio because it's easy to access and don't need to go anywhere far and could be film after school when the studio is free. I've also went to look at the location to see if there is anything that is need to be added or moved from the studio because I don't want any problems to happen when it's time for filming. I also did a BLOG post on location.
PROPS
Although I didn't used any props in my final film opening but in my first draft of my film opening I decide to use some props but then decided to change the storyboard so there are no more props needed in the film opening because the props wouldn't work with what I wanted to do.
DEADLINES
I was able to meet my deadlines because I create a plan during the month of want I have to do within that month in order to get everything finish in time and layout everything to make sure that I can handle other work that came in unexpectedly.

EDITING

BEFORE ~ 4.0.........AFTER ~ 9.0
At first I have no experience of editing but then I was able to improve my skills throughout the film opening process because editing the dance move need to be continuous so I need to be really careful when doing my editing to make sure that I don't create any jumps and mistake so this increase my editing skills to another levels.

Evidence from film opening:

Also how I create narrative to make sense to the audience is I try to make contrast of the mind and the real world by using light and edits to show the difference where at first the audience could see that the lights are turn on but then when the dancing starts the lights are off so this show contrast and without editing I wouldn't be able to show this.

Evidence of editing contrast to create meaning:
MIND VS REAL

CREATIVE CONFIDENT

BEFORE ~ 6.5........AFTER ~ 9.5
During my brainstorm I have many ideas for my film opening but what I decide to go with is psychological thriller because I also want to do something related to dancing and then I can across "BLACK SWAN" that is a psychological thriller that has Ballet in it so I was inspired to do a similar type of film opening but to go with different type of dance. I kept this idea in mind and try to develop my idea to fit with the thriller concept and this is how I decide to use lights as the key to show the difference in two people and with the ending to become clear that there are two people.

The difference in lighting:

CAMERAWORK

BEFORE ~ 5.0..........AFTER ~ 8.5
First I never film before so my control of camera were really low so I didn't thought that I would be able to do such a really challenging camera movement. However, when I was thinking of what kind of camera would work well with this type of opening an idea came to me to use 360 camera so I need to make sure that I don't turn up in the filming and make sure that I have some experience in doing the 360 camera so I did some camera testing to see if there are any issue with the camera and location.

360 Camera:

I've also used continuous shot when the MC opening the door to enter the dance studio.

VISUAL EFFECT

BEFORE ~ 4.5........AFTER ~ 7.5
I didn't used much visual effect in this film opening however I did experiment with lights and changing colours by using AFTER EFFECTS to make the film opening look better and to bring more clearer communication to the audience.
Another thing that I did was I created credit by using AFTER EFFECTS as well at first I didn't know to insert text so I look up on YOUTUBE for tutorial on how to create text and how to make it fade in and fade out to make is more smooth when watching the film opening.

Evidence of using Fade in and Fade out + adding texts:

Evaluation Q4

EVALUATION #4

How did you integrate technologies (e.g software/hardware/online) in this project?

HARDWARE:

  1. Camera
  2. MacBook
SOFTWARE:
  1. Premiere
  2. After effects
  3. Logic Pro X
ONLINE:
  1. Blogger
  2. YouTube
  3. MP3 Download
Post production - Flow chart on how I use technology in my Planning & Research/Production

IN PARAGRAPH:
PLANNING & RESEARCH
I plan most of my ideas in my note book because it's easier to write and faster so if there is anything urgent that's needs to be written down I could write it down right away. Also, it allows me to keep everything in one place and don't miss out any information or ideas.
Then I move it to blogger to publish it as my research and decision but before I post I check if I like it or not and if I do I would publish it but if I don't like it I would change it until I like it.

PRODUCTION
For production I separate them into two main parts which are Film and Editing.
In filming, there is casting where I chose a female actor to be in my film opening then I move on to camera to see how the location looks when filming. The location was the dance studio at my school (18:00).
On to editing, this is separate into 3 main parts:
1- PREMEIRE
Use for editing video and putting everything together to make a complete film opening also I use it to adjust light in my film because at first it was really dark so I made it a bit lighter.

PREMEIRE APP

2- AFTER EFFECT
I use this to create credits and title for the film also to add effect fading in and fading out.

AFTER EFFECT

3 - LOGIC PRO X
I use this to create my soundtrack and how I mix my music for the film because this is the app I mostly used for music so I'm more comfortable with Logic and know how to use them effectively.

LOGIC PRO X
